Hey everyone. How’s your week been? Mine’s been pretty good. Lots of possibilities job-wise opening up for me. Gonna apply for another admin job with a little charity here in Bristol (UK).
Anyway on with the task at hand: my contribution to this week’s WIPpet Wednesday. Seeing as it’s the 19th March, I thought I’d share with you another 19 sentences from my new, as yet untitled WIP. The lines follow directly on from last week’s WIPpet.
Rebecca, my MC, is having an unpleasant encounter with a man in an Audi who nearly knocked her off her bike…
It wouldn’t do for the pupils of Radcliffe High School to see their newest teacher let rip at a man who was presumably a parent of a pupil at the school. Or – God forbid – a member of staff.
But it was the Audi driver who lost his control. ‘This is my fault?’ he snapped. ‘You came at me out of nowhere. One second you weren’t there, the next I have to slam on the brakes because a hapless cyclist has acquired a death wish. And don’t you dare tell me that I wasn’t paying attention. I have been driving for twenty years and I have never had an accident. So before you go reporting this incident to your superiors I’d make sure that you get your facts straight.’
Without waiting for a reply he wound the window up and Rebecca only had a moment to grab her bike before the Audi roared off. Shaken she slowly removed her helmet, the rain settling on her long, black hair which she’d coaxed into a practical chignon that morning. Her legs were wobbly so rather than hop back on her bike, she pushed it to the nearby bike shed and locked it with shaking fingers.
‘Are you OK, miss?’ a voice asked.
Starting a little at the unexpected words, Rebecca looked up. A girl of about fourteen was standing there. She was slight, yet tall and had long unruly-looking dirty blonde hair. She also seemed a little awkward. Rebecca felt the need to put her at ease.
‘Yes, I’m fine thank you.’
Anyone can join in WIPpet Wednesday, just share some of your writing and make sure it relates in some way to the date. Then hop on over and add your name to this linky. Thanks to the wonderful WIPpet wizard K. L. Schwengel for hosting.
Ugh, Dude, not having an accident in 20 years doesn’t mean you’re not a douchenozzle. I hope I’m supposed to be disliking this guy because I really am! I don’t blame Rebecca for being shaken. I hope someone sits her down and makes her a cup of tea soon!

‘douchenozzle’ *snork* I can see that one flying from my mouth the next time I get behind some less than stellar driver!

I am told it is from Supernatural, though I don’t remember hearing it in the parts I’ve watched. It does sound like the kind of thing you would hear coming out of Dean Winchester’s mouth, though.

Ha! Yeah, that definitely sounds Deanish. I only watched the first season so I can’t say if he said it or not.

Yes, you’re definitely supposed to be disliking him! Rebecca’s all right after that, thanks for asking! 😉

Well, who does he think he is? Now I’m feeling all irked on your poor character’s behalf. Hopefully one of the kids watching well have enough of an authority-problem-meets-sense-of-justice to squeal on the driver.

He thinks he’s a lot more important than her lol. I think the kids watching are just interested rather than going to do something about it, although it’d be nice for Rebecca if someone stuck up for her at this stage.

Well, you’ve certainly painted a very good picture of a total jerk. If he comes back as a character, he’s going to elicit quite a bit of ill-will. Unless, of course, he does something to redeem himself.
Good luck on the job front. 🙂

Wow fab, you live in sunny(!) Brizzle, it is a small world – maybe we should meet?? I have a couple of other writer friends who live in the general Bristol area and who I met via Twitter/blogging. We meet now and then to discuss our writing, exchange ideas and encouragement etc.
Glad you appreciated my excerpt. 🙂

Ugh, I’d be shaking, too.

I know me too. I think at that point I probably wouldn’t want to get back on my bike any time soon! 🙂

Wow, he’s something else, isn’t he? I suspect we’re going to be seeing more of him. Perhaps we’ll find out why he was being such a jerk.

Great encounter! I’m hoping Rebecca will get to put him in his place soon!

Thanks Linda. I’m glad you enjoyed the excerpt. Yes, Rebecca will most certainly get her own back (at least verbally!) at some point. 🙂

In my experience, people like that driver are the kind that never have accidents themselves but cause accidents for others by being so arrogantly unaware of how their actions affect others. So I really hope that if he comes back, he gets his comeuppance.
Another job offer? Sounds interesting.

Hi Eden. Unfortunately it’s not a job offer – there have in fact been no job offers!! BUT I have been accepted onto an unpaid work experience placement for 8 weeks which should be really good. Re job opportunities – it’s more job hunting than anything else. But there are a lot of possible jobs going that I could do so watch this space!
Drivers like this one are a nightmare. As for him getting his comeuppance we’ll have to see… 🙂

Wow! This is really great Elaine. I’m still in the scene and am curious about this little girl. I have a feeling she’s going to be an essential past of the story! 🙂

Thanks Chloe glad you appreciated it. Yes, you may well see more of the girl! 🙂

Good scene. And I’ve been in a situation or two like that. Not fun. I have the feeling Audi man might come back and he might share his special brand of “personality” to make trouble. Or am I wrong and he’s a one off encounter?

Thanks Gloria. Glad you could relate to the situation. And no, it’s not fun! Audi man will definitely be back and probably get his comeuppance too! 🙂
