My Monday Blog

Well I’ve been absent from my blog for a while – over 10 days in fact.  The reason for this is that within the space of two weeks I started a job and left it.  Why you might ask?  Without going into too much detail, the answer is that I wasn’t the right fit for it; it overwhelmed me and I would have been working alone a lot which wouldn’t have suited me.  There’re other reasons too which I won’t go into.  I was given an initial two sessions of training for it, but it didn’t feel like enough.

So after a lot of thought over the long Easter break, during which I was really stressing out about what to do, I decided to work the first week and then bow out.  Thankfully the manager of the office was very good about it, which helped me.  And she was probably glad that I was being honest and giving up now, rather than hanging on for ages, getting more and more stressed and therefore that much less capable of doing the job.

Suffice to say that my writing has really suffered.  But today I’ve gone back to it with gusto.  And I have to say I’m LOVING it!  I’m currently editing my second novel, Reunion of the Heart, and going through the comments which I received from my beta readers.  There’s a lot to do but it’s so much fun!

It feels so good to be back to normal after having a really stressful week last week and feeling like I was only just holding it together. I’m feeling like myself again and I fully intend to return to WIPpet Wednesday this week, though I may have to improvise a bit with what I post as I haven’t written anything new for ages!!

I hope you’re all well and not suffering too much from stress!  Have you had a similar experience with a job?  Please do share your thoughts.

Till next time…

  1. On heavens yes! I left a job after about two weeks once – it seemed great at the interview and good money, but I soon realised the pressure that went with it wasn’t worth it. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. Something better will be coming! 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment Karen. I’m so glad I’m not the only one to go through this kind of experience. In a way though, it is good experience because it helps me to learn more about myself – as in what sort of job I want, what sort of job I can cope with. 🙂

  2. Elaine! I’m glad you had the courage to be honest about your job. Knowing what you can handle and what’s a good fit, is more important than actually having a job. I wish I had learned that earlier on when I was so overworked and overwhelmed in one of my past position. Eventually the stress made me physically ill. Nowadays I understand my strengths and limitations better, which helps me feel secure in them. 🙂 I’m happy that you’ll have more time to write. For me, writing is one of the best ways to relieve stress.

    Thanks for the update! 🙂

    1. Hi Chloe. Thanks so much for your lovely comment – you don’t know what it means to me to hear other people say they’ve had similar experiences. I’m sorry you had that job which was making you so stressed you were feeling ill. I really feel that if I’d carried on with this job, I would have been in a similar position to the one you were in. And with my health, it’s not a good idea for me to get really stressed. At the end of the day life’s too short!

I’m really happy to be back to my blogging and writing. It’s like I’m free again! I’ll keep you posted with my progress. 🙂

    1. Thanks Charles. It’s interesting to hear you say that about your previous job. I guess you live and learn, but sometimes it can be hard to take that step of leaving. I was lucky in that I was able to speak to the manager quite soon after I’d made my decision. She wasn’t often in the office so it was good that I was able to speak to her without too much delay.

      1. It’s good to have a manager who understands even if the decision is to leave. Face to face is always better than over the phone, which is what commonly happens. At least with me. Good philosophy on live and learn.
