Relaxing at the spa

Hi everyone.  Hope you’ve had a good week.  I certainly have.  Spring is in the air and to coin an American phrase I’m feeling mighty fine!

For today’s WIPpet Wednesday I thought I’d share with you 5 lines from chapter 3 of Reunion of the Heart for the 5th of March. We’re going backwards in the story from last week’s excerpt to the weekend away at the spa that my MC Anna goes on with her three friends, two of whom she’s been reunited with at the reunion.

Anna and her best friend Melissa are relaxing as they experience one of the many treatments on offer…

Oh this is bliss,’ Anna murmured as the masseuse kneaded her back.  She could feel the tension inside her unwind as if she’d been coiled tightly like a spring. For the first time in ages her thoughts were Elliot-free.  Letting go had never been this easy before.

‘Mmm you’re right,’ Melissa said.

So it’s short but sweet.  Boy do I envy Anna and Melissa.  I really fancy a nice massage right now. Anyway that’s it for this week.  I may be kind and share with you something longer next week.

If you fancy taking part in WIPpet Wednesday all you have to do is share some of your writing, making sure that it relates in some way to the date.  Then add your details here.

Thank you very much K. L. Schwengel for hosting.  We love youuuu!!

  1. A massage can really do that, relax your body AND thoughts. It’s lovely to let yourself go and just feel… special 🙂 ‘Coiled tightly like a spring.’ Good description!

  2. Oh I want to go to the spa now too. Sounds like bliss. And as your spring arrives I think we skipped autumn and have headed straight to winter. It’s been freezing here today.

    1. It does indeed sound like bliss! Sorry you’re experiencing cold weather – I can sympathise, I don’t do cold very well. Spring is just about here, though it hasn’t really been that cold here all winter. We’ve had storm after storm after storm with high winds and heavy rain. Not good. So I’m hoping that the worst of it is over. 🙂

  3. As a matter of fact, I’ve been on the receiving end of not one but TWO massages the last couple of weeks, on account of aching muscles. I feel much better! They definitely can work wonders, as your MC acknowledges!

  4. First off, I *wish* spring was in the air. Second, I know I’m in the minority here, but this scene made me cringe. I can’t do the whole spa/massage thing. Strangers touching me…nope. Not happening. Get the heck out of my personal space! A former employer once arranged for a masseuse to come in. She tried to get me to relax and enjoy it and finally gave up. LOL

    1. I know, spring takes its time to show. But I can’t really complain as we’ve had such a mild winter – at least in terms of temperature. That was offset by the storms we had though, one after the other for about 3 months. So much wind and rain you wouldn’t believe. I was not a happy bunny, especially seeing as I had to walk the dog in it! Some dogs don’t do rain – unfortunately for me our dog does all weathers!

I have to say I can see where you’re coming from re massages. I’ve had a good one and a not so good one which actually really hurt! I kept telling her (the masseuse) that it wasn’t good but it didn’t seem to help. So I don’t know what went wrong there lol.

      1. I have a friend who gives an awesome neck massage. Hands of magic. But I’ve known her for many years, so she can touch me and I don’t immediately tense up. 🙂

  5. I also wish spring was in the air here. We still have tons of snow on the ground. And it’s freezing!

A nice relaxing scene! A massage is a great way to relieve tension..

    1. Oh I do feel for you Linda. I hope it thaws soon. We’ve had months of bad storms one after the other. I’m glad the weather’s settling down over here.

And yes, a massage is definitely a good way to de-stress. 🙂

  6. Oooooh, so jealous! I could go for a massage right now. I’m supposed to get them for my jaw some time, but I don’t think it’ll be quite the same as a spa treatment. 🙂

  7. Oh, man. Now I want a massage! Even in such a short bit, you’ve managed to make a lot of us jealous of Anna and Melissa. Nice!

  8. I happily have a husband who gives good massages and got me a spa tub for the relaxation part. Me? I’m envious of this “mild winter” you mention. Not that I’d be thrilled for tons of rain, but it’ll be better than all the ice and sub-zero (Fahrenheit) weather we’ve been getting.

Good to see Anna letting go here though. She doesn’t seem to be able to much.

    1. Oh a husband who gives good massages – sounds blissful Eden! Hmm… envious of our wind and rain – you wouldn’t be if you had to endure it month after month! I will admit though, I’d rather have it than the cold – we had a very cold winter here last winter. Well it was very cold by UK standards anyway. I hate the cold and it seemed to go on forever so I can sympathise.

It’s interesting what you say about Anna, I do like the way you and the other WIPpeteers see her. And you’re right, she doesn’t let go very easily. She’s also introspective – in a big way! The MC for my next novel which is currently in the planning stages is going to be a lot more extrovert.

  9. You just wanted to make us all envious! *g* It seems to have worked on most of us. 🙂

Spring is definitely here in Germany. As opposed to our friends in Central and Eastern US, winter never really arrived here this year.

    1. Yeah I’m envious too. It’s been a long time since I had a good massage. 🙂

Ah yes, spring… bliss! Hope you get to enjoy it. And we’ve been a bit the same with the winter here – mild temperature-wise just VERY wet and windy!

  10. I feel relaxed just reading your excerpt! Nice work. I actually need to go ahead and make an appointment at Massage Envy. Two years ago my students got me a gift card there as a birthday gift. Sadly, I am horrible at taking out time for myself. Glad that spring has come. 🙂

    1. Yeah I so am glad that spring has come, it’s my favourite time of year. It’s nice that your students got you a gift. My mum is a retired teacher and she’s had some fabulous gifts from her pupils over the years. 🙂

  11. That really makes me want a massage too. Or maybe I just want a moment or two like that. A moment of being relaxed, feeling good, and no taxing thought, or any thought for that matter, to be found. Yeah…

You definitely wrote a good feeling that will leave readers a little envious (or calling their local spa).
