A short WIPpet for Wednesday

Hi all.  My contribution to this week’s WIPpet Wednesday is going to be short as I’m currently in the middle of preparing for an interview for a work placement tomorrow.

So I’m back to my old mean self and I’m only sharing with you 2 sentences from chapter 2 of my current WIP Reunion of the Heart. We’re going back and forth in the novel; here Anna has just arrived at her old school for the reunion:

Anna stumbled a little as she walked; she didn’t wear heels very often.  As they approached the school buildings, memories of being a pupil here flooded back to her.

So that’s it for me for this week.  Hopefully I’ll be able to share something longer next week.  And if you would like to take part in WIPpet Wednesday, just post on your blog a piece of your writing relating in some way to the date.  Then add your details here.

Thank you K. L. Schwengel for hosting. 🙂

    1. Thank you Jade that’s much appreciated. It’s an interview for a work placement rather than a proper job – but it’s still an interview and I’m still nervous!! I’ve been advised to treat it as a proper interview, a sort of practice run for the real thing. 🙂

      1. Yes absolutely. And it doesn’t matter what it is for, the emotions are still exactly the same. Just remember to be yourself and you will be fine. I am really rooting for you Elaine x

  1. I can so relate to Anna. Heels haven’t been my friend lately and school reunions are stressful. I’m looking forward to reading this novel. 🙂

Best of luck with the interview! I worked for Career Services and I’d always say, do your research and be yourself. That’s all any of us can do. 🙂

    1. Sorry to sneak in here, Elaine, but wanted to say “hi” Chloe. Hope all is well, since you didn’t WIPpet this week. (Reslife mishaps this past weekend? Take care of yourself too.)

  2. Good luck on your interview tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll do wonderful. Remember, breathe. That’s very important. 😉

Two lines. Really? I think that’s less than most every WIPpeteers’ lightning round answers! 😀 A good two lines, though. I sure can relate. I do okay in heels, but they’re not my footwear of choice.

  3. So, now that “tomorrow” is gone, I dearly hope that the news is good news, Elaine. Hopefully your memories of prior interview experiences are good ones and you went in assured.. and not wobbling on those heels. 😉

    1. Hi Eden, thanks so much for your good wishes. I don’t know as yet if I’ve got the placement or not. I’ll keep you all posted. And BTW I kept my heels low! I wear flats most of the time and don’t walk very well in heels at all!! 😉 Hope you and your family have a happy weekend.

  4. Hope the interview went well!

Ah, yes, the snippet brings back memories of high school — or the equivalent — which I suspect most of us writerly don’t exactly remember fondly … 🙂

    1. Thanks Ruth. I’ll let you know if I got it. Glad you appreciated the excerpt. I think you’re right – writerly people are perhaps more likely to suffer at school. Though I guess in some ways it’s a tough time for everyone.

  5. I’ve never been to a school reunion, but I can imagine arriving for one and having all those memories vying for attention at the forefront of their minds. It’s kind of interesting that they’re such a popular event, given a large percentage of people would probably not want to revisit their teenage years at all!

    1. Me neither but it makes for a great story imagining going to one and what people’s reaction would be! And you’re right it is a little weird that most people wouldn’t want to revisit their school years and yet will go to a reunion like that. I must confess I would never go.
