OK so it’s not the best image ever, but it’s the best I could find! And yes, as the title of this blog post suggests, I am going to be mean again and share just a few sentences.
I’m sharing 33 words from chapter 13 of my current WIP Reunion. How I’ve worked it out goes as follows: chapter 13 for 2013, 30 words for the 30th October, then 1 + 2 = 3 (from the 10th month and 2 from 2013) so 33 words.
So there you have it. As with last week, I’m not going to give too much away about the plot because this is quite recent writing that I’m sharing with you here and I don’t want to share everything because that would spoil it!
All I will say is that at this point in the story, my main character Anna has done a bit of a double take as she mistakes her boyfriend for someone else…
For a split second she thought she was seeing Elliot. Then Anna recovered herself. It was the bathrobe. She’d never thought that Peter and Elliot looked alike. But their hair colour was similar.
Yes, I am mean. It’s partly laziness so that I don’t have to search around for ages for 30 lines/paragraphs etc. It’s also like I said last week, that I really don’t want to give away too much of the plot. I don’t want to spoil it for you guys before you come to read the finished product!
I hope all you NaNoWriMo writers have fun with it. If I had more energy (and wrote MUCH faster) then I would join in too. But as it is I write/work better at my own pace. I am looking forward to seeing the results of your energetic writing in December! There – another challenge for you – to have something to show me!! Just kidding – I’m sure you’ll all be brilliant!

Possibly. But Elliot was the guy who cheated on her so it’s more of a nasty shock to be reminded of him by her current flame Peter.

Ha ha. Technically she could as Peter is her new bf lol. But it’s a bit of a nasty realisation for her that Peter looks a little like Elliot as Elliot was the one that did the dirty on her.

NaNo WriMo is going to be quite a challenge for me too. I’m more or less using it as a challenge to get myself writing faster than I currently am, and where ever that word count gets me by the end of November is going to feel great. Spellbound WILL have a complete rough draft!
Sounds like it was a shock to suddenly realize two people are sort of similar. Gah! Not so fun to mistake your boyfriend for someone else!

Wow I’m flattered – no one has ever complimented me on my ingenious use of maths before lol! I was always rubbish at maths at school. 🙂 No Anna is simply being unpleasantly reminded of her former bf by her current bf. Not good.

I’m doing NaNo too, and I logged 73k in July, so I’m hoping to beat that in November, but we’ll see. I enjoyed the excerpt and can’t wait to read the context. Sounds like someone might be having some not so pure thoughts about a bf’s brother.

Actually Peter and Elliot aren’t related lol. Peter is her current bf, Elliot her ex. So not really good to be confusing the two! Glad you enjoyed it anyway.
Wow 73k in one month is amazing. Hope you’re able to repeat that for NaNo.

Heh. Actually, based on my friends who dated before getting married, most girls stick to a certain overall appearance in their romantic choices. If you line up the pictures of their ex’s, you’ll almost always see a strong pattern. Even my sis-in-law, who’s dated guys of several races, has an obvious preference for certain traits.
Poor Anna, though. That must be disorienting. And possibly discouraging…

That’s really interesting ReGi about having preferences for certain traits in bfs. Anna is definitely disorientated here, although to be fair to Peter he’s a completely different person from Elliot.
Are you taking part in NaNo? As I said, I’m not. It’d be too much for me really but I admire everyone who does. It’s a lot to take on, an amazing challenge. 🙂

Yes, I’m playing NaNo this year. 🙂 It’s my hope to use November to get into a routine that sort of works for me. We had a lot of change happen this summer and I’m still reeling from it.

It’s not that surprising that Anna has picked two guys who are similar…. I mean, despite the issues she had with Elliot, she started dating him for a reason.

Good point Eden. We choose people to be with who we like, don’t we, those who appeal to us and yes on a psychological level Anna has chosen slightly similar people. But not personality-wise. Peter’s much nicer than Elliot!
