Dropped in it – WIPpet Wednesday

wednesdaybanner

OK so I know I’m really late with this. Last week I didn’t participate in WIPpet Wednesday either as I had a nasty stomach bug which I feel like I’m still recovering from. I nearly didn’t take part today as I’m still knackered, but I thought it’d be good to update my blog and share another excerpt from Reunion with you.

So I’m sharing 11 lines from chapter 9 as it’s the eleventh of September today. My thoughts are with everyone who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks twelve years ago.

Here’s my contribution for today:

How on earth did he…? Melissa. This had to be her doing, Anna thought pulling her suitcase along behind her, her arm aching. But she didn’t know his contact details… Don’t be so slow, Anna, she told herself, Mel could easily have opened your email account when you were away from your computer.

She could feel her face twisting into a half grin, half grimace as she made her way through the enormous thoroughfare of the station. Unsure whether to be mad or pleased with her friend for doing this, she reasoned that at least she wouldn’t be alone in a big city for a while.

Anna almost felt like dragging her heels as she reached the exit to the station. She paused for a moment standing motionless, surveying the landscape in front of her as though she were a statue. People brushed past her roughly and she heard them muttering about her being in their way, but ignored them. It was a hot day and a warm wind blew on her face as she was standing there.

I know this is a fairly cryptic piece to share, but I thought I’d tease you with it a bit more. Also I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, especially seeing as I’ve shared quite a lot of it already. 🙂

To take part in WIPpet Wednesday all you have to do is share an excerpt from your current WIP which correlates in some way with the date.  So it could be nine paragraphs from chapter eleven.  Then add your name to this linky.  Thanks as always goes to K. L. Schwengel for hosting.

  1. Hate when my stomach isn’t agreeing with me. That or a sore throat are about my worse enemies. Ugh.

Nice excerpt. It’s a good set-up with glimpses of several characters and an idea of location. All the keys to leaving us wanting more.

  2. Blech to the being sick part. Hooray for cryptic excerpts and feeling better.

I’ve been a solo traveler with nowhere to go in a strange city. I’m wondering what it is about this man that makes him only slightly preferable…and why Melissa thinks this is a good idea…and why Anna doesn’t seem so sure…

    Nicely done.

    1. Yes I do feel a lot better. I’m not that used to travelling to large cities on my own so I did have to use my imagination a little. But that’s what writers do after all! Glad you’re intrigued by the mystery man. 🙂

  3. I like a cryptic WIPpet, one that leaves you with questions and makes you wonder what’s going on and what lead the character to be where they are, which you do very nicely here. And plot giveaway are a big no no – keep us guessing!

  4. So sorry to hear about you being sick, Elaine. Stomach problems are some of the worst, especially when the nausea lasts for days. Having been there once or twice myself, I really, really hope you are better now.

Ad for your WIPpet… LOVE it! (Tried to find an adequate cartoony video link to make you smile but couldn, sorry) I don’t need a lot of specifics, but I’m extra happy to have good tension building, mood settling, a sense of impending changes.

I think Melissa is trying to set Anna up with Peter.

    1. Ugh stomach problems are horrible! Thankfully I don’t come down with them very often – actually hardly ever which I’m glad about! So glad you like the WIPpet *wide grin* it makes me feel I must be doing something right with it. 🙂
