WIPpet Wednesday on my new blog!

Country house

Hi everyone. This is my first WIPpet Wednesday on my new blog. I’m hoping I can get it to work properly, not being used to WordPress. So hoping this works, here are the first six lines of chapter three of my current WIP (it being the 6th March today):

Anna and her friends stopped in their tracks to admire the beauty of Wodefrey Place. The stunning eighteenth century mansion house loomed ahead of them, seeming to tower ever upwards. Tall columns marked the imposing entrance. Standing on top of a hill, the house commanded an estate of more than three hundred acres. It was so quiet there Anna felt as though the house and its grounds had been placed under a spell, and would not wake for another hundred years.
‘Do you think we’ll be allowed in?’ Lizzie asked in a stage whisper, making Melissa burst out laughing.
‘They’d better after all the money we’ve forked out to come here,’ Rachel said.
‘I don’t suppose they’ll have a problem letting me in anyway. I am dressed for the occasion after all,’ Anna deadpanned.
Three pairs of eyes turned to her, scrutinising her outfit. Anna had worn a classic-looking little black dress with a smart coat and kitten heels. Dark sunglasses were propped up on high on her head and her hair was swept back in a chic chignon.
‘You do look like Audrey Hepburn reincarnated,’ Melissa said.

I’d love to know what you think and if you’re not a WIPpeter just share some of your work and add it to the linkie via K.L.Schwengel’s blog

  1. I like the sound of Anna and the immediate ease being amongst a group of friends… The WIPpet makes you want to find out what exactly they’ve let themselves in for!

Nice blog too – I couldn’t find a follow button (this however is not uncommon for me – not being able to see for looking).

    1. Hi Raewyn. Thansk for your comment. Glad you like the blog. There should be a follow button somewhere – I think Regi managed it lol but I know what you mean. They can be hard to find! Hope you’re having a good Thursday. Still on Wednesday here. :o)

      1. There’s a wordpress follow button but you need a follow option so new posts can be emailed (makes it really easy then to read posts). Not sure I explained that too well! Love the new blog though… wordpress all the way for me. 🙂

  2. Great description of Anna all Audrey Hepburn-esque – I got a very vivid impression of her and the mansion house too from this extract. I’m intrigued to find out what the occasion is…

  3. Is that the mansion in question in the picture? Or at least, the one that inspired it? If so, it is indeed impressive! I also love your description of Anna’s outfit, I was picturing Audrey Hepburn before I even got to that part of the text!

    1. Hi Emily. Thanks for your comments. The mansion is just random but I thought it fit the bill quite well. I do love visiting stately homes though and so I’ve imagined quite a spectacular one for my story. Glad you like the Audrey Hepburn image too.

  4. I wish (sort of) I could look like Audrey Hepburn!

What genre are you writing? Contemporary literature? Or shall we see some fairies or monsters popping out of the woodwork in the lovely, old mansion?
